Obituary of Robert Albert Ducharme
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Ducharme on June 11th, 2026, at the age of 84. He passed away peacefully with his family at his side at the Welland Hospital. Robert was predeceased by his cherished wife Gertrude Demers Ducharme 2021 (nee Trottier), his beloved parents Patrick and Albertine (nee Mariage), and his sisters Huguette Souter 2021 (Andy) and Doris Lecompte 2022 (Normand).
Robert was a proud lifelong resident of Welland. He worked for the City of Welland until his well-deserved retirement in 1996.
Robert was a man who truly appreciated the simple joys of life. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and loved to hunt, often spending his quietest and happiest moments on the water or in the woods. He was a well-known and competitive member of the local cribbage league. A recent highlight of his play was achieved when Robert scored a perfect hand of 29 at four hand play, the ultimate milestone for any card player. He looked forward to his Wednesday coffee get-togethers and the laughter shared with friends. He will be deeply missed by many hunting buddies, his fellow card players and friends.
Robert is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Lise Marcoux (Mike) and his stepchildren Laval (Diane), Helene, Mario (Jacqueline), Liette van Niekerk (Martin), and Sylvain (Joanne). He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, also leaving behind a number of nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Welland Hospital for their compassionate care and support during his final days.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTER, 827 East Main St., Welland ON. In keeping with Robert's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be determined at a later date. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) in Robert's memory.
