Obituary of Marthe Coutu
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marthe Coutu (née Laurin) on January 11, 2017 in her 89th year.
Marthe is predeceased by her beloved husband Aimé Coutu and their son Hector (Kerra).
She will be missed dearly by her children Marcel (Anne Maxwell), Gisèle (Gérald Naud), Monique (Michael Petrachenko) and daughter-in-law Kerra Wylie (Michel Horne). She also leaves behind grandchildren Paige, Sam, Julien, Mikaël, Savannah, Maverick, Russell, and Gabriel.
Predeceased by her sister Marie and brothers Leo, Hermas, Hector, and Paul, Marthe is survived by her sisters Bertha, Sister Alice, Pauline, and sisters-in-law Toni, Julia, Denise, and Claire.
Marthe was an exemplary mother. She was very hard-working and multi-talented. There was no project that she would not take on in order to get exactly what she wanted—while staying on budget. She was an excellent seamstress and upholsterer. She was also a talented artist in a variety of media, as well as an avid gardener. Family and home life were always her priorities. Marthe passed on many of these talents along with a strong work ethic to all her children.
The Coutu door was always open to visits from family and friends; her house saw an abundance of life, love, and fun. You could always count on getting a good meal and excellent pie at the Coutu Ranch.
“Mrs. C” will be remembered for all of the aforementioned, as well as for her sense of humour, determination, and memorable one-liners.
Marthe also enjoyed her job as a City of Welland Transit driver where she was awarded a prestigious “no sick days” certificate, along with being one of the first female drivers.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place May 6, 2017. Details to follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
