Obituary of André Roy

It is with broken hearts that the family of André, in his 73rd year, announces his sudden but peaceful passing at home on December 5th 2016. Beloved husband and best friend of Maureen O’Sullivan Roy. Son of the late Laurent Roy and the late Irene Latulippe Roy LaRose. Loved and loving brother-in-law of Tim O’Sullivan. Dear brother of the late Pierrette Tarzwell, Ginette (Ronald) Lamontagne and Denise Tuin. Cherished uncle of Brian, Paul, Brenda, Keith, Laurent, Annette, Jamie, Debby and Rick and families. André will be dearly missed by his godson Ryan Carpenter and family, and by the young men for whom he was a Big Brother. André was born in Thetford Mines, Quebec. He moved to Welland at an early age and eventually became a very active member of the Welland Community. He was an original member of the Welland Recreational Canal Corporation, a long time member of the Kiwanis Club of Welland, an active Club Richelieu member, a former president and current supporter of the Welland Food Drive, a Welland Senior Citizens Advisory Committee member, an officer of the Big Brothers of South Niagara. He was very involved in both the Niagara Regional and Greater Welland Chamber of Commerce for a number of years. André loved politics. He was a well-known longtime member of the Liberal Party but more recently became an active supporter of the NDP. The list goes on, the roles too numerous to mention. He showed by his actions that one person from humble roots could make important contributions to the world in which we live. In accordance with André's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive relatives and friends at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, 827 East Main Street, Welland, Friday December 9th, 2016 from 7 pm to 9 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, December 10th, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until service time in the chapel at 11 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined.
