Obituary of Dalton Jacques

Heaven has gained another angel. Wrapped in the arms of his parents Norm and Debbie, Dalton Jacques passed away peacefully at McMaster Children's Hospital on Friday, March 11th at the age of 15, after a long and very courageous battle with cancer. Dalton has reunited with his Grandma Lisette Jacques who was there to greet him with open arms and a warm hug. Born and raised in Welland, Dalton first attended St. Kevins and then became a scholar at St. John Bosco school where he dominated spelling bees, excelled academically and was known for his most impressive public speaking. He had a unique talent to present the spoken word and could capture audiences with his charm, wit and that most incredible twinkle in his eye. Dalton said more with a look than others with a thousand words. Dalton was a well-rounded, caring young man who established friendships with people of all ages. His kind spirit and giving personality touched many in his short life; and that was never more evident than the outpouring of people who braved the cold weather on February 17th to light the bridge yellow in support of his fight. One thing was for certain; to know him was to love him. His fierce determination helped him to excel at everything he did. He loved doing many outdoor activities including riding his bike, swimming, golfing and the thrill of making the jumps with his dirt bike. He was very adventurous, outgoing and never afraid to try anything new. He also liked playing sports including baseball and boxing but his passion was playing hockey with his friends. What he got most joy from was the brotherhood of his teammates on the Welland Tigers who continue to display his jersey on game day. "Doing it for DJ" will live on. Although much too short, his life was full and he accepted many roles during his 15 years. He was a son, brother, nephew, cousin, scholar, friend, teammate, fighter, inspiration, and hero. Cherished son of Norm and Debbie, adored little brother to Shelby (Pat) Kremer, highly thought of nephew to Peter and Roseanne Dominic and will be sadly missed by his cousin Dustin, who was like a brother to him. Treasured nephew to Terry and Anna Dominic and will be greatly missed by Joshua and Terence who looked up to and admired their older cousin. He will be forever missed by his loving papa (Bob Plain), who he adored. Dalton will be sadly missed by his classmates, childhood friends, the hockey community and countless others. The emptiness his passing has left for many is insurmountable. When you think of Dalton, please remember him for his love for life, his love for those around him and faith in God. Celebrate him in your memories and live as he did... to the fullest. Funeral Details Visitation will be held at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, 827 E. Main Street, Welland on Monday, March 14th from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00- 9:00 p.m. Please join us on Tuesday, March 15th as we celebrate his life at 11:00 a.m at St. Kevin's Church, 303 Niagara St.,Welland, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ronald McDonald House Charities Hamilton or Alivia's Rainbows, would be appreciated by the family. Donations will be gratefully accepted by the Welland Funeral Home.
