Obituary of Roger Babin

C'G C'est avec regret que la famille Babin annonce son décès, le 18 octobre, 2015 entouré de ses êtres chers. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse et meilleure amie bien-aimée, Carmen (Beauparlant) Babin, son fils Charles, dont il était si fier et son épouse Peggy (Schoenhals) Babin, ses deux petites-filles chéries Nicole et Kristine Babin de Belleville, Ontario. Il est prédécédé par ses parents Michel et Hectorine Babin, ainsi que par son petite ange, Angela Babin et son frère Jean Claude Babin. Il laisse également dans le deuil ses deux soeurs: Angela (feu Lionel) Larouche et Yolande (feu Laurent) Corriveau; ses quatre frères: Bernard (Julienne) Babin, Régis (feue Mignonne) Babin, Camille (feue Dorothy) Babin et Raymond (Shirley) Babin ainsi que de nombreux cousins, cousines, neveux et nièces. Au cours de sa vie, Roger Babin a été impliqué dans une variété de mouvements et d'organisations tant dans son village natal de Chandler en Gaspésie que dans la communauté de Welland. Il est membre fondateur et ancien président du Club Richelieu Welland; il a siégé comme membre du Bureau des Gouverneurs du Collège Niagara; ancien commissaire au Conseil scolaire du Niagara sud; membre de la Société d'Histoire de la Gaspésie; membre de la Fondation Père Eusèbe Ménard, oeuvre de charité, membre fondateur de la Société d'Histoire et de Généalogie du Niagara, membre émérité du Cercle Horace Viau, Richelieu International; ancien membre de l'Ordre de Jacques Cartier; membre associé de la Légion canadienne Br. 4 Welland; paroissien fidèle de la paroisse du Sacré-Coeur, Welland; ainsi que de nombreux comités locaux et provinciaux. M. Babin a fait carrière à l'Atlas Steels, pendant 10 ans, puis dans l'enseignement à l'école Général Vanier et à l'école secondaire Confédération jusqu'à sa retraite en1987. Fier de ses origines gaspésienne et de ses racines acadiennes, M. Babin a publié un livre sur la généalogie et l'histoire de ses ancêtres et relatant ses souvenirs familiaux. Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on October 18th, 2015 at the age of 88. He leaves behind his cherished wife and best friend Carmen (Beauparlant) Babin. He was the proud father of his only son, Charles, his daughter-in-law Peggy (Schoenhals) Babin and the loving grand-papa of Nicole and Kristine Babin of Belleville, Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents Michel and Hectorine Babin, his little angel, granddaughter Angela Babin and his brother Jean-Claude Babin. He is survived by his two sisters, Angela (late Lionel) Larouche, Yolande (late Laurent) Corriveau; his four brothers, Bernard (Julienne) Babin, Régis (late Mignonne) Babin, Camille (late Dorothy) Babin and Raymond (Shirley) Babin, all of Welland. Born in Chandler, Gaspé, Québec in 1927, Mr. Babin was very proud of his Acadian roots. He wrote and published a book about the genealogy and history of his family whose ancestor, Antoine Babin, settled in Acadia, Nova Scotia, in 1646. During a ten year stage at Atlas Steels, Welland, Mr. Babin worked in Production Planning then Export International Sales. This was followed by a career in teaching with the Niagara South Board of Education mostly at École Secondaire Confédération, as Head of Guidance. From his teenage years and throughout his adult life, Mr. Babin was involved in numerous organizations and associations at the community and province levels. He was an active and proud charter member and past president of the Club Richelieu Welland; he sat on the Board of Governors of Niagara College; he was a former trustee on the Niagara South Board of Education and the French School Board of Education; he was a member of Société d'Histoire de la Gaspésie; member of Cercle Horace Viau (Richelieu International); former member of Order de Jacques Cartier, member associate of the Canadian Legion Br. 4, Welland and parishioner at Église du Sacré-Coeur, Welland. Funeral Details La famille Babin recevra parents et amis au Salon Funéraire Welland, 827 rue Main est, Welland le 23 octobre, 2015 de 14h à 16h et 19h à 21h. Les prières de la paroisse et du Club Richelieu auront lieu le même soir débutant à 19h30. La messe des funérailles aura lieu le 24 octobre à 11h en Église du Sacré-Coeur, 72 rue Empire, Welland. The Babin family will receive relatives and friends at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME 827 East Main St. Welland, on Friday, October 23rd, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with vigil parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. followed by Club Richelieu prayers on the same day. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Église du Sacré Coeur, 72 Empire St., Welland Saturday at 11 a.m. If desired, as expression of sympathy, a mass or memorial donation to the Fonds Foyer Richelieu are appreciated by the family.
