Obituary of Maria Nobile
NOBILE, MARIA (née Marchio) passed away peacefully and in God’s grace at home surrounded by the love of family, on September 23, 2021; one year to the day of the passing of her eldest son Vincenzo (Vince.)
Born in Sambiase, in the Province of Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy. Maria was a very strong willed, kind, non-judgemental and forgiving woman. She made it a point to avoid arguments, it was not important as to who was right or wrong, she was always respectful and valued people for who they were.
Maria was an extremely hard worker, one of her jobs before coming to Canada was as a cultivator, she cultivated olives, grapes and other fruits and vegetables. From her home in Acquadauzano in the mountain above the town of Sambiase, she along with others would make her way down the mountain at 5 a.m. to the town and brought to her workplace located near the present Lamezia Terme Airport. After hard days work, she would make the 15 km trek back home, a three plus hour walk from an elevation of 14 metres to an elevation of 700 meters, up Monte Reventino.
She continued with her strong work ethic here in Canada, working at various places of employment throughout the years. She worked at the cotton mill, she cooked for two local Italian caterers cooking delicious food for those celebrating special occasions. She also worked at a farm in N.O.T.L, and then at Nabisco/Kraft where she retired.
Maria selflessly helped others, she particularly enjoyed volunteering to cook pasta dinners at St. Mary’s church here in Welland.
Maria is the beloved mother of Nick (Emma) and Antonietta, proud grandmother of two grandsons Michele and Daniele. She is survived by two sisters, Teresa and Giovanna, a brother, Filippo (Santa,) two sisters-in-law Franca and Alba (Carmello) and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her father Nicola and her mother Italia Bilotta, brother Giuseppe, her husband Umberto (Antonio) and her son Vincenzo (Vince), sister-in-law Rachela Bilotta, brothers-in-law, Raffaele (Angelo) Nobile, Francino Sdao, Eliseo Ambrosio and Filippo Mete.
She will be fondly remembered by loving family and friends.
Special thanks to her caseworkers and caregivers from St. Elizabeth in particular Jade. We are extremely and eternally grateful to Rexall Home Health for the timely and friendly provision and delivery of medical equipment.
