Obituary of Marcel Louis Joseph Gratton
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving; husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Marcel Gratton. Marcel passed on January 25, 2023, at the age of 97. Beloved husband of Madeleine Gratton (née Racine) for 71 years. He will be sadly missed by his children; Claude, Yvon (Michele) and Louise Robert (Richard). Fondly remembered by his grandchildren; Stéphane Laroche (Jennifer), Jamie Laroche (Sara Ferguson), Brigitte Alcide (Daniel), Julie Cutler (Dave Minor), Mélanie Gratton (Angela Witteven), and great-grandchildren, Tanner, Hannah, Soleil, Logan, Isabelle, Seth and Paige. Dear brother of Pierrette Pizzari, and brother-in-law of Daniel Racine (Annette). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Marcel was predeceased by his parents, Camille and Josephine Gratton, and brothers Lucien (Gilberte), Jean-Paul (Gilberte), Léo (Adrienne), Gaston (Gisèle) and sisters; Jeanne, Aline, Sister Simone, Sister Thérèse, Sister Hélène, and his sister-in-law, Réjeanne Loignon (Normand).
Marcel was born in St. Janvier, Québec 1925, and moved to Port Colborne, Ontario in 1949. He met Madeleine in Welland that same year, and they were married in 1951. Marcel was employed in the Welland Police Force for 8 years and later at John Deere, where he retired after 32 years. Marcel relished reading, listening to classical music and travelling with his Madeleine. He was also fond of playing and watching tennis. In his retirement, he enjoyed doing regular volunteer work at the Foyer Richelieu and taking long contemplative walks.
The Gratton family is very grateful for the care and love from the ECU staff-Welland Hospital Site and for their awesome receptiveness to Marcel’s playful humour!
The family will receive relatives and friends at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 East Main Street, Welland on Friday, February 3, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
