Obituary of Brian Michael Bower
September 23, 1969 – October 18, 2023
It is with immense sadness that the family announces the passing of Brian Bower on October 18, 2023, after a brave and courageous battle to ALS. Taken from us too soon at the age of 54. Brian is survived by his wife and the love of his life Michelle Bower, who fought vigorously and endlessly by his side. Forever in the hearts of his daughter Laurissa (Patrick), grandchildren Nyla and Tenley, his sister Diane (Troy), brother Darren, sister-in-law Penny, brother-in-law Chuck (Trina) and father-in-law Charles. Loved dearly by nieces Courtney, Nevaeh and Samantha. Predeceased by his father Glendon Bower, and his mother Patricia Bower, sister Mary-Anne Bower and niece Sarah Bower.
Brian fought ALS with bravery, optimism, and strength. Earning the nickname Iron Man from his dear wife Michelle. Brian never failed to take his diagnosis as a teaching moment, sharing many stories via Facebook as “Brian’s ALS Unmentionable Mentionables”. Stories meant to teach us about the effects ALS has on both the person living with the disease, and the role of the caregiver, while also shedding light and humour on such a heavy topic. He was always a great storyteller. He was a strong advocate for ALS - raising donations through The Walk to End ALS, telling his story through social media, and getting the title of ALS ambassador. He did his best to raise awareness on the fight to end ALS and strived to inspire many on his journey.
Before his diagnosis you could find him watching every sport under the sun, cheering on his favourite sports teams. He was an avid fisher and spent a lot of free time on the water. He was a hero, and a person loved by many. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Rest peacefully.
